rose in bloom - Could it have been different? Yes!
Could it have been different? Yes!
a plus size woman’s journey to discover her place in a world
where being slim is the unrealistic expectation for acceptance
Forgive me for going on all sorts of little tangents, but I think it's important I say this.
No-one took the time to take me to one side and to tell me I was OK and acceptable as I was - at that very point in time.
Let me say this again.
No-one took the time to take me to one side and to tell me that I was OK and acceptable as I was - at that time.
If they had, then I believe my story would be very different. I believe for many big women their stories would be different too, if they had been told they were OK and made feel equal and acceptable to everyone who knew them. It's trying to meet the invisible “ideal” that's more impossible than to lose the 5, 10, 15, 20 kilo, you know.
People just don’t care to think how their attitudes and the way they treat us influence our lives to such an extent that the more we try to meet their expectations, the more we fail.
The more we fail, the more guilt ridden we become.
The more guilt ridden we become, the more withdrawn we become.
The more withdrawn we become, the more we dislike ourselves.
The more we dislike ourselves, the more we try to hide.
The more we try to hide, the more vulnerable we become.
The more vulnerable we become, the more exposed we become.
The more exposed we become, the more exploited we become.
It goes on, and on, and on.
But back to my story.
